Three Key Questions To What’s Really Going On Inside Your Head (Weight Loss)

Monday, March 31st, 2008

By Matt Mc Dermott Chances are that you read, see, and hear these types of headlines all the time: “Get Ripped Abs Fast!”"Increase Your Bench In 3 Weeks!”"Lose 50 Pounds With XYZ Supplement!”"Be Chiseled For Summer!”"Get Buff By Buying This Program!”"Drop Those Last 10 Pounds!” They are not only in the bodybuilding and physique advertisements, but they appear on television, radio, the internet, billboards, and magazines of all types. In addition, you may hear comments from your friends & family saying, “If only I could lose those last stubborn 10 pounds,” or, “I hate being so skinny!” Most people, if you were to observe them from a third-person’s point of view, are probably exposed to comments of this type at least once per day if they live or interact in an urban or suburban environment. I have had the opportunity to study many of the “mind disciplines” such as NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), hypnosis, sports psychology, the basics of quantum physics (ok… the VERY basics!), and a few other areas of similar study. The thing is that most of these disciplines have commonalities, or “overlap”, between them. Personally, I find this to be terrific!! If the latest studies of the human mind - with the most intricate machines & research studies - happen to share commonalities with examples we see in everyday life then we can begin to take heart knowing that there might be something to those commonalities. It would be as if you & your friends all had a different type of compass, yet each one pointed to “North” in the same direction; you then can make an agreement for what all of you consider to be “North.” One “commonality” among all of these disciplines is that there is usually a much deeper motivation that is going on in your head when you set goals or make other declarations about your identity, particularly about your own body. The types of headlines listed earlier may sell you features, benefits, or both; however they usually fail to trigger what is REALLY going on inside your head! Here is an example: If you say, “I want to drop those last 10 pounds before the upcoming X (family reunion, high school reunion, company pool party, etc.)” you now can ask yourself three quick questions to find out your TRUE motivation: 1) When I think about XYZ (dropping those last 10 pounds, increasing my bench press by 20 pounds, etc.), what is important to me? 2) How is the answer from # 1 important to me? 3) What will the answer for # 2 do for me? Here is an example: 1) When I think about dropping those last 10 pounds before the upcoming company pool party, what is important to me?Example answer: “I want to look good.” 2) How is looking good (answer from # 1) important to me? Example answer: “So I won’t look gross to people.” ** SIDE NOTE** A lot of people are motivated by what they “don’t want to be…” or “don’t want to have…” This is a different type of motivation than what you DO want or what you WANT TO ACHIEVE. This is will be a topic for a different newsletter. 3) What will not looking gross to people (answer from # 2) do for me?Example answer: “I finally get to feel attractive around people I know.” So the “core emotion”, in this example, is for you to feel attractive around people you know. Once you have that core emotion (also known as a “deep-seated need”) identified, ask yourself the best ways you can meet this need. It could be: I am going to update my wardrobeI am going to get my teeth fixedI will get a good book on exercise from a reputable sourceI will be around more uplifting and positive peopleI will go on that interview to get a new job, earn more money, and start to feel “alive again”Etc.No matter what your specific situation is, make sure that you ask yourself those three questions and get to the heart of what is really going on quickly. It will save you TONS of time, money, and energy! Many people find that their “sticking points” or “plateaus” come from never addressing what is REALLY going on inside their own heads…. and all they need to do is ask three simple questions! Turning Trash Into Treasure - The Truth About Scrapbooking

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Kathy Williams While so many women today enjoy the art of scrapbooking, many are surprised to discover that it has a history that stretches back some one hundred seventy nine years and has as much to do with trash as with delicate embellishments and carefully written journals. Indeed, what started out as a book about collecting scrap pieces of paper and newspaper clippings has turned into a multi-million dollar industry. - Published in 1826, “Manuscript Gleanings and Literary Scrap Book” by John Poole was a unique collection of engravings and poems. The book also explained the best means of finding, collecting, and arranging scraps (printed pieces of paper with beautiful ornate designs). - During this time, even the smallest leftover “scraps” of paper were saved and later used in scrapbooking layouts. Even today, some scrapbooking revolves around stickers intended to look like old “scraps” - “Scrap mania” quickly caught on in the society and companies began producing scraps, scrapbooks, albums, and supplies used for the display of puzzles, poems, journaling, and pressed flowers. - In a society where little was wasted, the scrapbooking addict would find plenty of uses for old newspaper clippings, advertisements, and printed poetry. - Modern scrapbooking, with archival and acid free paper owes much of success to Marielen Christensen. In 1980, she shared scrapbooking albums of her families history with the World Conference of Records in Utah. - The albums generated so much attention that the Christensen family saw an immediate business opportunity. They opened the first retail stamping store “Keeping Memories Alive” - Today, thousands of scrapbooking companies supply the eager scrapbooking crowd with stickers, rubber stamps, acid-free paper, albums, and a whole host of embellishments. Scrapbooking continues to draw much attention and interest since it is focused on the wonderful memories of our lives and the lives of the ones we love. Whether it is the birth of a baby or the graduation of a son, these moments are sure to make scrapbooking a favorite hobby for many years to come! Choosing Deck Coatings

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By Ken Wilssens Two of the most valuable attributes of a deck is that is be durable and functional. That is, it should last a long time and serve its purpose while offering protection and safety to those using it. For these reasons manufacturers have developed a number of products that perform these two tasks, being various deck coatings. These deck coatings range in purpose from providing defense against weathering agents to giving a deck a non-stick surface. Of the non-stick products, several have ground up items in them, which provides the aforementioned effect while still keeping the deck surface smooth, even on bare feet. A particular type, poly-crete, can actually be used to create a surface somewhat like slate when applied to plywood. Of the products with ground up pieces in them, rubber is the more common additive, but walnut shells are also frequently used. Sand is another anti-slip ingredient in many of these products and in fact, is invisible in clear coatings. A nice feature of these non-stick coatings is that they can easily be sanded off. A disadvantage of these coatings is that some do not take well to various paints and epoxies. Latex paint however, does work fine to paint over these coatings. Products offering waterproofing can not only be applied to decks but also indoor surfaces including even vertical surfaces. These products, when dry, create a non-porous film over surfaces. 3M, a United States based company, supplies many of these articles with the advantages of being UV resistant, low odor and non-flammable. It also offers Scotch-Clad TC deck coating, which is one of the most durable water-resistant commodities on the market. Products supplied by other manufacturers include Versa Deck and Versa Deck Plus, which both employ a fiberglass system, with the former being used on concrete decks and the later being utilized on plywood surfaces, and Elasto Shield, which is a latex waterproofing membrane used over existing waterproof coatings to offer additional support. Business Dress for Women: Making Impact

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Sheila Dicks Buying a suit can be an important investment when you are trying to improve your look for business or career advancement. Wearing a standard off-the rack suit for business or a job interview does not always mean success. Fit is very important. The outfit may be great but if it does not accentuate your positive features or is not the right color, you will not look as good as you can. Start by determining your body type and then choose the suit that will look best on you. For instance, if you are a triangle shape you are smaller on top than bottom and will want to bring the eye across the shoulders to create the illusion of greater width at the shoulders. Choosing a business suit with horizontal lines can achieve this effect. Choosing the perfect pants, skirts, accessories and even shoes will depend on your body shape. Some things to consider: 1. Spice a gray or black suit up with vibrant colors such as burgundy, blue, violet, rust, green etc. You need not look boring just because you are dressed in gray or black. 2. If you are applying for a position with a new company or are trying to look more professional in your present company, take a look at the companys dress code and what the other employees are wearing. Your outfit should not make you appear under or over dressed. 3. Give your business outfit more pizzazz by wearing scarves with different patterns and colors. Take into consideration your size; you body proportions and the features you are trying to accent. 4. Make sure your shoes are in good repair, complement your outfit, give your leg the desired effect and are stylish. Being stylish doesnt mean the latest fad but instead a look that is timeless. 5. Make sure that you buy items for your business wardrobe that coordinate well with each other, saving you money and time. 6. To make sure you have the look you desire buy a full-length mirror so you can always check yourself from head-to-toe before leaving home. Kids Don’t Grow Up Wanting to Die!

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Randy Redhawk I have been watching the news and reading papers from all over the last couple of weeks. I have read web blogs, letters to the editor…. I have seen many things to cry about. I see people pointing fingers at the current President, I see people pointing to a lack of God and parents and many other excuses for teen suicides. On television I watch as 10,000 kids die each day of starvation. I see kids running our streets with no place to go, I see trash, I see drunk drivers slapped on the wrist. I see the jobless, and I see unemployment, I see low wages for those that do work. I see Senator’s and other State officials are lying to our police departments, as well as to the public. I see the family drunks in convenience stores buying beer with food stamps, and I am sure they are not feeding that to the baby. I see boys and girls at our schools laughed at because they do not have nice clothes or their shoes ripped and worn to pieces. I see working mothers crying hoping they can find a better way for their children, I see children crying without their mother. I see fathers long-gone wondering if the kid was really theirs. I see drug dealers. I met a man today that smokes marijuana but does not know where his next check will come from. I saw a man that works twelve hours a day and belongs to two churches telling his son he did not have time to play ball. I saw a coach using foul language to the ten and eleven year-olds on his team… but lets get that part straight, regardless of age, a foul mouth is not something good men share with any boy, girl or teen. I see voters unhappy about their reps voting against a ban on cockfighting. I see child protection laws being thrown out, and drunk drivers getting pats on the back. I see great men and women leaders worldwide dying of old age that will not be remembered by many, including grandpa, grandma, uncle, aunt, son, daughter… while thugs, liars, criminals fill up our televisions and newspapers. I see biased media and reporters. I see media making trivial things into works of awe inspiring garbage, while the real art goes unnoticed. Yes, this last two weeks there is a lot to cry about. Then again there is every week, and each week it becomes worse, there seem to be less tears, at least from most people. Are we hardening our hearts to our neighbors, their children, their homes.. Our neighbors? Its pretty bad out there, real life. The message is being sent to every household in America. To every teen, to every child. There is no hope. As a guest speaker for a Native American Pow-wow a few years ago near Battle Creek Michigan, I was asked to speak about the Native American Community helping each other instead of bickering with each other. What I said then, is just as important this week to the world, as it was to them. We come to this circle with open arms, hoping for the best for our families and ourselves. We listen to our leaders. We obey even when it does not sit well in our hearts. We condemn the outside world for wanting our ways of life and peace, yet many of us grasp their ways and have no peace. We do for each other, we work day and night and then come to the circle for peace in our lives. Maybe sometimes we forget how big this circle of life is, maybe we put our ways too high on a pedestal and cannot leave them behind when we come to the circle. Maybe we forget how important our children our to our futures, our mother earth, our very sanity. Maybe we forget our veterans who in the circle we honor and forget when we are outside. Maybe we learn from our teachers, but they should not be teaching. Maybe there are good teachers and we are not listening. Quiet now, listen to the music of the wind, the birds, smell the blossoms, close your eyes and sniff the goodness of the land, the blue sky, the warm earth. Keep your eyes closed and imagine a blue circle. Imagine that is us. Now imagine all the pow wows in the nation going on at the same time on that blue circle. Make the circle bigger, and bigger yet. The circle of life does not stop when you leave the circle of the pow wow. The circle of life is as mighty as the four winds, bigger than the sky. If you have chosen to be a part of the circle then remember the circle is all of the earth, and each person and animal on it. The Creator commands us to be caretakers of the earth. The trees, the animals, our old and young, our veterans and mothers, but most of all our neighbors. Remember we are riding on the this planet, and it is up to us to make it better, if children and teens are going to survive they must believe there is hope to change the things they believe they cannot change. Each of us can make a difference, one voice is all it takes. If you make it a billion voices, it will change dramatically, no teacher, no church, no political system can do that. Only you - the parents and grandparents and aunts and uncles and friends can do that. You can change anything. Just cry out. Believe me, I do it each week and see those changes. Maybe the media, maybe our leaders have forgotten these things. Let us hope that you remember them, you teach them to your children, because they our are future, give them the hope now to accomplish that goal, give them the hope they need to survive. Put Physics in Everyday Life

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By Thomas Oestereich My friends have been a little old for college. But it has been a second chance for them, or rather a third one… So this time they wanted to do it right. Unfortunately, their curriculum included Physics. Colleges usually discourage specialization. Colleges want graduates to be more or less universally educated. They were my friends, so quite naturally they turned to me to get the extra explanations they felt they’d need to swallow that indigestible stuff. Teach me physics. And I explained. And waved my hands. And … - and I finally realized that it was not physics in the first place, but some concepts of Maths they had not taken on! Especially the concepts of derivation and integration. My gosh! So I went there. I started to talk about derivatives. And that a derivative basically is a slope. And that you can visualize a derivative as the slope of the tangent to the point in question. Did I mention that my friends were slightly above normal college age? If you are slightly above college age, you have learned that only things matter which have a bearing on your very life. Subconsciously, that is. Consciously all you realize is that you feel very uncomfortable when you try to follow a logical sequence of thoughts without seeing the benefit. You find it VERY hard to do exercise problems, because they are good for nothing (except exercise), the solution is already known, and the situation is generally so oversimplified that this well-known solution does not correspond to any real life solution of any real life problem. So they came back on me: “But WHAT is a derivative GOOD for in the end?” Well, I understood. I had to find an example of their daily struggles to motivate them to get acquainted with the idea of infinitesimal calculus. So I went on: “Just imagine: You drive your car from point A to point B. let’s say the distance is 20 miles. And you take 20 min to arrive. How fast are you?” They got the answer immediately: “60 Mph !”. But I was not content. “Really? Look, what happens - you start your car. Do you instantly jump to 60 Mph? And after arrival, you normally don’t hit a brick wall and come to an instant halt, do you?” They got the idea. “No, of course not, we have to start and first pick up speed, and than before we arrive, we have to slow down and gradually come to a stop. And if we have to do all in twenty minutes, our speedometer will be above 60 somewhere in the middle of the journey.” That was the word for which I had hoped: Speedometer! “So you say you drive above 60 miles per hour, but not for an hour, you are actually only moving a couple of minutes! And even then, your speed is not constant, bur rather varies constantly!!” “What are you driving at with all that imaginary driving??” “Well, didn’t you ask what a derivative is good for? Here you have it: The speedometer shows you the derivative of your local displacement with respect to time, because that’s what speed is. And if you look at the needle of the speedometer and how it moves when showing your variable speed, the speed of that needle movement goes with the second derivative, the acceleration!” Now we got it. Finally a sigh: “So there is a derivative built in to my car!” Yes. One step further. Because there is no understanding without motivation. If you want to see more “physics” from the angle of a “normal” person, have a look here: www.physics.global-momentum.net RegardsThomas Oestereich After 20 years of being a physicist, Dr. Thomas Oestereich turned from scientific research to a life as an author and editor of his home school curriculum. He now seeks to help his readers gain access to the insights of physics. Bringing the achievements of science to a larger public, he hopes to finally contribute to a better knowledge of the options and constraints of decision making in our democratic society. Private Investigators - Part I

Monday, March 17th, 2008

By Michael Russell This article is the first in a series of articles focusing on private investigators; the work that they do and how they go about doing it. Private detectives and investigators use a number of methods to investigate a variety of matters ranging from tracking a cheating husband to finding a missing person. To carry out their investigations, they use a number of surveillance techniques and tools. To verify facts they make phone calls, or visit a particular place of residence or work. When investigating missing persons they will go as far as interviewing everyone who ever knew the person, even friends and relatives who hadn’t seen the person in years. In all these cases private investigators assist attorneys, businesses and even private citizens with legal, financial and personal problems. These detectives offer a number of services including executive, corporate, and celebrity protection; pre-employment verification; and individual background investigations. They also investigate computer crimes such as identity theft, emails of harassment, and illegal downloading of copyrighted material such as songs and sheet music. They will also investigate matters involving civil liability and personal injury cases, insurance claims and fraud, child custody and protection cases, missing persons cases, and premarital screening. Often they will be hired to prove or disprove infidelity, which are some of the most common cases they handle. Most detectives are trained to do physical surveillance. They’ll do things like observe a site like a person’s home, usually from a well hidden vehicle or location. They’ll perform this surveillance using still and video cameras, binoculars, and a cell phone, until all the evidence that they need is obtained. This surveillance can sometimes go on for hours or days. Detectives may also do things like perform computer searches through databases or work with someone who does, if they’re not proficient with computers. Computers allow detectives to get an enormous amount of information in a very short time. When investigating a particular person they can get information on individuals’ prior arrests, convictions, and civil legal judgments; telephone numbers; motor vehicle registrations; association and club memberships; and a number of other things. If it’s a matter of public record a private detective will find it. The actual duties of a private detective really depend on the needs of their clients. For example, in the case of employee theft a detective may come to work for the company, in the guise of being another employee for the purpose of observing this person. They may even go as far as to strike up a friendship with the suspect. If this sounds like a 1950s grade B movie, it is more real than you can possibly imagine. Things like this go on all the time. Eventually if the detective spots the employee doing something illegal or gets him to confess to his crimes through their friendship, he will report this first to the employer and then eventually testify to this in court. In our next article in this series we will continue with the duties of a private detective and some of the different types that you will find as there are specialists in this field. ——————————————————- Michael Russell Your Independent guide to Private Investigators ——————————————————- Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Michael_Russell http://EzineArticles.com/?Private-Investigators—Part-I&id=129058 order ambien with a prescription schedule to taper off ambien ambien equipment exercise ambien cr extended-release tablets doses

Marvellous May Plant Colour

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By James Kilkelly Many plants vie for my attention during the month of May. Here are four of my favourites. Cornus alternifolia Argenta Cornus alternifolia Argenta is commonly known as the Variegated pagoda dogwood. Originating in Asia, its common name relates to its shape which resembles a sacred tower in China. This large deciduous shrub or small tree can have ultimate height of 3 metres (9ft); with a spread of approx 2 metres (6ft). Within the next week its layers of slim branches are dotted with clusters of star shaped yellowish-white flowers, followed by blue-black fruits. A special mention for the bright green leaves edged yellow which turn reddish-purple in autumn. You can use the Variegated pagoda dogwood as a large specimen shrub or as a small tree simply by removing any lower branches as they appear, this will create a clear stem and a showy canopy. To ensure quickest growth you must position this plant in full sun. I would highly recommend this dogwood if you have limited space and require a tree that will not over-power you garden. Many garden centres may not have it in stock but it is only a phone-call to their suppliers away, and well worth waiting for. Kolkwitzia amablis Pink Cloud Kolkwitzia amablis Pink Cloud is commonly known as the Beauty bush. This fast growing deciduous shrub is a native of China and grows to an ultimate height of 3 metres (9ft); with a spread of approx 2.5 metres (7 to 8 ft). Because of this size and its slightly old fashioned mounded look it is not a shrub I see planted in many new gardens. This is unfortunate as the Beauty bush lives up to its name whilst in flower. For at least the 3 weeks you can expect to see showy masses of bell shaped pink flowers with a yellow throat. These flowers are held amongst its small oval grey-green leaves on slightly arching branches. Kolkwitzia amablis Pink Cloud requires a position that receives upwards of 4 hours sunlight a day in a soil that is limey or alkaline. If you are looking for a specimen shrub or a larger shrub for the rear of a bed then do not over-look this old time stalwart. Ribes sanguineum Ribes sanguineum commonly known as the Flowering Currant. This large deciduous shrub can have ultimate height of 3 metres (9ft); with a spread of approx 3 metres (9ft). A native to the United States, it is frost hardy and right now is laden down with pendulous reddish pink flowers. These flowers which resemble miniature bunches of grapes are held amongst light green leaves from mid to late spring. Both the flowers and leaves are scented, the leaves especially so when bruised or crushed. The Flowering Currant is mostly used in the mixed border as a showy specimen plant although I have also used it in whip planting schemes to good effect. If you would like to cut some flowering stems to bring indoors, they will last approx 6 to 10 days. To ensure quick growth plant in a position with full to partial sun and an adequate supply of water. I would highly recommend this shrub if you have a problem growing plants due to air pollution as it is very resistant to exhaust fumes etc. Two varieties to look out for are Pulborough Scarlet and King Edward VII Alyssum saxitile The clump forming perennial Alyssum saxitile is commonly known as the Basket of gold. This native of Europe is evergreen and grows no higher than 20 cm (8 inches); it has a spread of approx 30cm (1ft). Because of its size and its ability to tolerate drought it is ideal for planting in cracks in your paving, crevices in your walls and of course in the rockery. For at least the next 4 weeks you can expect to see clusters of tiny vibrant yellow flowers above its grey-green leaves. Alyssum saxitile requires a position which drains freely and receives upwards of 4 hours sunlight a day. If you would like to attract some butterflies to your garden then plant clusters of Alyssum throughout, sit back and watch as the yellow flowers draw them in.
